Nestled within the Intermark KL, Ohla Tapas and Cocktails is the ideal location for a relaxing, elegant experience in the heart of the city, the perfect place for a drink after work or your next cocktail function. And even for special dates – like a birthday celebration for Chris during last December.
Ohla is a contemporary Spanish restaurant headed by Spanish chef Toni Valero, whose past experiences includes the award-winning El Celler de Can Roca and Mugaritz in Spain.
You can’t actually get to Ohla when you’re inside The Intermark. You will have to go out from the main entrance and enter Ohla that is facing the main road. As you reach its main entrance, you will be greeted by a twinkling night scene and skyline of Barcelona city on its glass doors – greeting you OHLA (Hello in Spanish).
Being first timer at Ohla, we were kinda surprised that it is actually quite a small restaurant that sits less than 30 people. However we love it being furnished with several light wooden tables and chairs, as well as a narrow bar counter with high bar stools facing the open kitchen, creating a modern sophisticated dining scene.
The red-and-black hued murals of Spain’s annual San Fermin Fiesta adorn the walls while floor-to-ceiling windows overlook the bustling Kuala Lumpur city centre, resulting in a contemporary and casual ambience with tantalisingly authentic Spanish fare.
One downside of the restaurant that we would like to comment: kitchen’s air ventilation is pretty bad cos dining here was like eating at a Korean BBQ restaurant (well not as bad, but our clothes and hair smells after that). Since they have an open kitchen and the place is pretty small, the smoke from the kitchen actually went out to the patrons.
Palacio de Sada, Rosado 2014 – RM130
Rose Wine to start the celebration.
Jamon Iberico de Bellota y “pa amb tomaquet” – RM52
Bellota Iberico Ham and “Pa amd Tomaquet”
Thinly sliced iberico ham is eaten with baguette that was drizzled with olive oil and added with garlic. Yum!
Vieira con panceta iberica y pure de patata con limon – RM46.50
Grilled scallop with iberico pork belly & lemon mash potato
I love this combo as they brought out the sweetness with hints of saltiness out of each other. Light and filling at the same time. Very fresh scallops.
Arroz Bomba de la Albufera con Sepia y calamar a La brasa – RM48.50
Albufera Bomba rice with cuttlefish and grilled Mediterranean squid
Wanted to order their Paella but they have changed their menu a little. So we settled for their Bomba rice which was wetter as it has more gravy. Palate was circled with flavours as this was very tasty and I love their fresh and springy squid!
Foie huevo 62 y pure de patata trufado – RM52.50
Pan seared foie gras, truffle potato puree & 62 degree egg
It has a silky, melt-in-your-mouth texture and a very subtle taste. A cleverly executed combination of using melt-in-your mouth foie gras, fragrant silky potato & the smoothness added by the egg.
For Papa C’s birthday “cake”, I mean dessert:
Caramelized banana with brandy, homemade banana ice cream and popping white chocolate candy
Happy 31st Birthday my Love!
A place to we would only go during special occasions as they serve authentic Spanish selections with a fine dine experience and price.
