Kai’s Plato @ Kota Damansara

Seafood lovers hands up!
We both enjoyed seafood very much as we thought having these delightful treats from the sea are key to a healthy diet. Low in calories, sodium, and cholesterol, protein-packed seafood provides vitamins and minerals. Provided in moderation though. Haha.

It’s not like we will have it everyday but when we do, we’ll feast!
Please join us at Kai’s Plato!
Warm and heartfelt pretty much characterizes things at Kai’s Plato.
Located just above a Mamak at Encorp Strand, we were greeted by a huge wall of scallops shells adorned with colourful messages. Every patrons get to write and colour their messages after dining 🙂
Being skeptical about its location at the very beginning as it’s a new building at the Kota Damansara area, we were wronged by its fast popularity already! It’s full especially on weekends! So you are advised to call for reservation in advance to avoid disappointment.

What’s so special about their seafood?
Behold.. Seafood Platter!
Not just any seafood platter buy layers of it!

There were 5 of us, so we settled for their Seafood Platter of 4 persons (Captain Platter) that came in a three layer steam pot – RM229.80
As soon as the layers of steam pot were served before us, the friendly owner approached our table and start explaining how should it be indulged. They practices “hand and table” dining.
We first have to pick the seafood of our choice with the tongs provided, place the seafood on the table (the table is your plate haha), and start picking them with our hands and start eating. Then, throw the seafood shells into the bucket provided.
Reasons of using our hands? You can actually lick and taste the flavour out of your hands. Haha. It always feels more proper to indulge seafood without cutleries! What say you?
Another reason? To stop us from taking pictures with our dirty hands while were eating so that we can really enjoy the food!
So better get your cameras ready WHEN the food is served.

On the first layer, we were served with cheese baked mussels, baby abalone, tiger prawns, squids, baby octopus, and clams presented beautifully! These seafood were seriously good as they were fresh. You might worry if they are tasteless as they were all steamed? So wrong!
So juicy and tasty! Also remember to dip into some of their chilli sauce for the extra kick.

As soon as you finish the first layer, the staff will help to take away the first layer of pot and here comes the second layer of seafood galore: mud crabs, slipper lobster and scallops. Again everything were so good, especially their crabs, with freshness that I’m madly in love with!

And last but not least; the third layer!
Named the “essence” of the dinner, all the steamed seafood’s essence that dripped down to the last layer of the pot have made a concentration of liquid that contributed to the soup, that was also boiled for many hours with seafood!
We were served with some angel hair pasta to go along with the soup stock and it taste like lobster bisque! Bursting with mega flavours. Many patrons actually “ta-pao-ed” the soup back!
We jokingly said that we should use the soup to cook “yee mee” with egg. Haha. I bet that would taste awesome!

After that the owner brought us some clean scallop shells and let us draw + scribble on it. These shells will be hanged onto their “wall of shells”.
