LaoMaZis 老妈子 @ Jalan Ipoh, KL

When the time comes for KampungBoy‘s birthday he would be opting for local cuisines instead of lavish western or foreign dining. It would be best if he was treated with his favourite Yut Kee or 223 Nasi Lemak. 😛

Couple of the year ♥

This year, his beloved Citygal suggested for some home-cooked lunch at LaoMaZis (老妈子).

老妈子
Lao Ma Zi

which literally means Mother in Chinese, that reflects a homely venue for home cooked Chinese dishes that most loyal customers would return. This motherly restaurant is located at the basement of Wisma Yoon Cheng at Jalan Ipoh. No worries about locating it as you’ll see signs of LaoMaZis easily. They provide ample parking spaces too.

When it comes to ordering, just ask for their recommended dishes and specialties if you’re a first-timer like us.

Chin Cai Steam Fish – RM35
“Chin Cai”. Yes you’ve not read it wrongly. It’s actually their specialty steam in which they “simply” put in their ingredients and recipe for steaming with hints of spiciness.

Smoked Pork Belly – RM19
Beautifully smoked with the right proportions of lean meat and fats. Served with braised peanuts.

Otah Special – RM25
Otah-Otah that was cooked inside the coconut with mixture of the coconut flesh, it became a sweeter version. However, we personally thought the otah-otah itself was just mediocre as it lacked the flavours of the spices.

Salted Egg Tofu – RM12
Rice’s best friend. Flavoursome gravy that smooth beancurd 🙂

Deep Fried Lotus Root with Salted Egg – RM14
I love anything with salted eggs 😛
Lotus Root battered evenly with salted eggs & deep fried till golden brown to add the crisps!

Wild Boar Curry – RM14
Heavily spiced with curry spices.

Complimentary Ice Cream Potong with different flavours for us to choose from 🙂

Kampungboy: the Happy birthday boy! We did not give him Brands, we swear 😛

Verdict: Decent Chinese “Tai-Chow” venue suitable for family & friends gatherings. Ample parking space. Portion of food was not too big but still sufficient for a group of us.
