5 Course Valentine’s Day Menu @ The Speakeasy Restaurant & Bar, KL

How have the Year of the mighty Dragon been treating you so far?
Overloaded with lotsa Abalones, Yee Sang and more lip-smacking Chinese food I bet!
Times really flies as it’s almost a week since the Dragon drops by……
The next thing to think about would be Valentine’s Day!
While little cupids would be out aiming arrows on lovebirds, it’s time to scratch our heads on where to wine & dine! Well, it’s a ritual, it’s another reason for a good meal! 🙂

If you’ve thought of bringing your loved one to a romantic setting with fine dine, Speakeasy could be your choice 🙂
Special thanks to Ramesh for the arrangement.

What’s with Speakeasy?

Never did we know that the name was actually originated from the States, a place that sells alcoholic beverages illegally. Well, of course they are not 🙂 Don’t get us wrong.
I wouldn’t say this place is easy to find, as it’s nestled in one of the older part of KL city. However, with GPS and google maps, it’s handy.
Speakeasy incorporates the concept of serving classic Western food as well as catering our local tastebuds through their Asian cuisine.
NOTE: Speakeasy would undergo renovation in March 2012 and they would diverge into a different approach in serving modern European & classic Malaysian food.

Well, for now, their Valentine’s Day Menu would be the talk of the day!

The romantic ambiance perfect for sweet talks! 🙂

Valentine’s Day Menu
5 course dinner with one bubbly cocktail @ RM 150 ++ per person

Available on 14 February 2012

Note: Please call to reserve for this menu 🙂

1st Course

Fresh Canadian Oyster
Served with pernod pickled fennel & moluga caviar, the fresh and velvety oyster would be a very fresh start

Sydney Rock Oyster Shooter
I love how the oyster was being drowned in basil infused very bloody Mary. A very intelligent idea creating a shooter this way as we just love the feeling of gulping down the oyster!

2nd Course

Double Boiled Chicken Consommé
Served with prawn & scallop quenelle, enoki mushroom and tempura baby asparagus. After a cold start, a consommé was a brilliant follow-up. The broth was really tasty as it’s infused with the chicken essence wiwth mushrooms and nibbling on the crispy tempura gave a different touch.

3rd Course

Home Tea Smoked Salmon
Served on a bed boiled potatoes slices, Alaska crab creme fraiche, ikura pearls and organic petit sprouts. Presented beautifully using ingredients of different colours, the salmon was smoked perfectly retaining the juicy texture of the fish. We could felt the melts in our mouth. No boast! Having it together with other ingredients like the fish roes and potatoes would result a better texture definitely.

4th Course

Pan Seared Halibut
Perched on rainbow zuchinni spaghetti, topped with spicy tomato and orange chutney, honey dew champagne nage and edible flowers.
Once again, a big applause for the fresh halibut, smooth texture of the meat with crispy skin. However, I personally love my fish to be in a white sauce version as I prefer creamier texture. Nonetheless, well done on the presentation.

Red Wine Braised Ribeye
Presented mightily on truffle scented mash, topped with seared foie gras, grenadine onion marmalade and merlot glace. Bravo for rhe foie gras that was seared to perfection over high heat, retaining every juicy bits of it. The downside was the rib eye as we find it a little too dry to our liking.
We love pairing the caramalised onion with the meat though 🙂

5th Course

Chocolate rose and lime infused honey dew with passion fruit
A very ideal and creative dessert perfect for your date. The Valentine rose crafted beautifully using icing and pastries.

Be here with your Valentine 🙂
