Uncle Jang Korean Restaurant @ Ampang

Chris was very enthusiastic to check out the famous Dakgalbi when he happen to come across Uncle Jang’s Facebook page. There we went, a spontaneously agreed dinner plan with AiWei & KampungboyCitygal before we head off to Nabe Bakery (a new Korean bakery in town – do check it out).

Exclaim Uncle Jang and it’s not the Korean BBQ that we used to eat routinely. What’s their call?

The famous Chuncheon Dak Galbi 춘천닭갈비

Chuncheon 춘천 is very popular for its Dakgalbi Street; a street mushroomed with many restaurants that specialized in Dakgalbi (닭갈비). Dakgalbi is a South Korean dish featuring delicious chicken cubes with vegetables and topped off with a spicy Gochujang sauce. At Uncle Jang, you may find other ingredients like Dduk (Korean rice cake), cabbages, sweet potato, scallions & onions churning out a more aromatic dish. These ingredients are then tossed and grilled before you 🙂 A restaurant filled with chitter-chatters of the Koreans, this assured us a good start even before sampling their dishes.

Another thing we love was; they are so reasonable priced!
Dak galbi (Spicy – RM 22 or Non-spicy – RM 19) and other dishes such as Samgyetang (ginseng chicken soup), Dakgyetang (kimchi chicken soup with rice) and Pork cutlet are also available.

We went for a portion of their spicy dakgalbi and another non-spicy version. Please be reminded on their level of spiciness as you’re guaranteed a fiery experience!
We also had their Sari (which means additional dish): Rice cake (Dduk), Ramen & Fried rice (RM6 each)

End product: Tasty Fried Rice. I really love their Gochujang sauce!

No worries if you think you’re not good in cooking as the waiters around are the ones who’s doing most of the job. Just watch & be prepared to enjoy 🙂

But remember to put on an apron!

Complimentary condiments: lettuce for wrapping, pickled onions and kimchis

This Korean Dessert would be the ‘fire rescue team’ if you could still feel the burning sensation on your tongue after a round of tasty and spicy Dakgalbi 🙂
It tasted a lil’ salty with a neutralizing effect of the captivating taste from Gochujang sauce.

Patrons could opt for their floor cushions or chairs as well.

  2. Ahhhhh, look so good! I wanna try this place out too!

  3. This looks really nice! This appeals to me more than korean bbq. I find that korean bbq is a little too much effort for the reward of the food. I find that i never focus on the company because i am focused on the food.

I also like the idea of adding fried rice at the end to the dish! I wonder if i can get this in perth.

    1. Not really sure about perth.. perhaps you could google dakgalbi in perth. haha
we find this much tastier than typical korean bbq 🙂 like the idea of toss & fry.

  4. Hi Chris and Christine,

This is the shop that i’ve been visiting for quite some times, i’m so in love with their dakgalbi too as its hard to get nice dakgalbi in malaysia! ^^
