Malacca Food Trip: Donald & Lily’s Nyonya Food @ Off Jln Tun Tan Cheng Lock

With kampungboycitygal, Ivy & the couple of eatonlylar, we set our feet at Malacca with a food hunt mission in a day on one of those cloudy Sundays. With a list of noms-noms, we managed to stop by 5 stations since there was a downpour.. If not, I guess there would be more! 🙂

1st Stop: Donald & Lily’s Nyonya Corner
The first thing that comes to our mind when we mention Malacca was an authentic Nyonya meal! Straits Chinese and Peranakan recipes that stresses on the use of local spices to churn out the mixture of oriental taste yet retaining the Malay cooking styles. This quaint little place has what we mentioned. A small house hidden with great flavours of our baba & nyonya.

Mee Siam – RM3.50
Tasty vermicelli tossed in spicy, sweet and sour light gravy with toppings like fried eggs and fish cakes. We love this with the sambal sauce.

Nyonya Laksa – RM3.50
Very different from the Sarawak Laksa we had in Miri but Nyonya Laksain their level of richness. This is a type of laksa with a rich coconut gravy (also called Laksa Lemak). It tasted a little sweet and spicy as well as the soup base was made with a rich, slightly sweet and strongly spiced coconut gravy.

Nasi Ayam Pongteh – RM6.50
Another Nyonya Delights with hints of sweetness. However, I still personally prefer the version at Nyonya Makko.
Lack of the bean paste taste.

Cendol – RM2.50
I always thought that Malacca has the best cendol! Drenched with generous amount of gula melaka, the downside of this portion of dessert are just the ‘not-so-fine’ shaved ice. Would love to turn over to Jonker 88 again 🙂

  6. […] down good old Malacca is never complete without savoring her Nyonya dishes. Well earlier we had Donald & Lily’s Nyonya Food, and most of the delectable nyonya fares are concentrated in Melaka Raya commercial areas such as […]

  7. The new location of Donald & Lily (beginning June 16 2012) is opposite Bei Zhan restaurant and on the same row as a hotel named ‘Place 2 Stay’. If you are coming from the direction of Mahkota Parade, it’s on the left side of the bridge.
