Sakura Café and Cuisine @ Jalan Imbi, KL

Sakura has always been a familiar name in our parent’s dictionary during their courtship years.

Its long years of establishment have draw out attention & tastebud’s curiosity to check out their very famous Nasi Bojari and Nasi Lemak.
“Old is Gold” we deemed.
It seems that Madam Kwan’s recipe originated from Sakura. Kitchen tales that we’re not really sure of. Now came along Miss Kwan Cafe, the Madam’s descendant.
Alright, back to Sakura 🙂
It was another get-together session with our besties; kampungboycitygal and AiWei for a round of Malaysian fares:
Nasi Bojari – RM 23
Served with assam prawns, chicken/beef rendang and deep fried chicken drumstick (a huge one). Comparing this to Madam Kwan’s, their deep fried chicken drumstick was not very tasty and crispy, but overall this serving was mediocre. Assam prawns were not too fresh tho.

Nasi Lemak – RM 14.80
Coconut steamed rice served with chicken curry, sambal ikan bilis, floss, hard-boiled egg, acar, and fresh cucumber. Spicy and flavoursome sambal but it seems that their coconut based rice was lacking the coconut fragrant.

Tom Yum Seafood Soup served with bread and butter
Weird eh? Serving tom yam with bread and butter. Fusion of the east and west I guess.

Char Kuey Teow
Flat rice noodles stir-fried with prawns, egg and bean sprouts.
Huge portion that could feed 2 person. Disappointing as it lacks the ‘wok hei’ and it was kinda tasteless. We had to add extra soy sauce.

Cendol
The complimentary dessert that comes together with the Nasi Bojari.
A huge bowl of dessert loaded with generous amount of cendols, red beans, shaved ice and thick coconut milk. Pour in the fragrant gula Melaka! A must do 🙂
Guess what? The Cendol saved the night! 😛

Looks like the “Old is Gold” term have to be revised sometimes. Yikes

  3. Yup, and mum kept saying how Sakura served the best nasi lemak in town. Maybe yes, way back then.
But judging from the review, I would not wanna waste the effort just for a saving grace in the form of a bowl of cendol.

Tried their nasi lemak few years ago, nothing special but not worth the price.
