Parisian Hi-Tea @ Cafés Richard, Sky Avenue, Genting Highlands

I enjoyed having afternoon tea very much because I’m very flattered with the delicate nature of bite-sized sandwiches and tiny samples of cakes offering a different way to enjoy food. And they offered a refined take on the everyday builders tea and coffee, nibbling on a whole host of finger foods.
Oh yum.

While maybe most people enjoy the fine china of cups and saucers more with tiers of cakes and savouries, the French don’t really have these fancy practice. Serving treats straight to the point – on trays and plates.
While Paris excels when it comes to café culture, from sitting out on the terrace of the historic cafes to popping in to your favourite local bar for a classic grand crème and a croissant, until now that culture has not extended to the quality of the coffee itself. Little did I know of that!
During the older days, the French themselves do not even seem to care that their coffee is unanimously condemned as lousy. All that is changing fast though, with a new generation of coffee bars and wifi coffee shops opening up all over the city, many run by Australian and American baristas who take their espresso-making skills very seriously, alongside French coffee enthusiasts who are travelling the world to visit plantations, then importing and roasting the fragrant Arabica beans themselves.
These born-again cafés serve potent double espressos made with freshly ground beans from Ethiopia or Rwanda, Salvador or Guatemala – introducing the French to more varieties of filter coffee, flat white or even the siphon and Aeropress.

Learning the cafe culture in France, we saw a great change – bringing the romantic idea of a good time which is to while the afternoon away on a sidewalk table, nursing a petit noir or an espresso and observing passers-by, patrons in Malaysia can now enjoy it all at the top. Right here at Genting Highlands!
