Afternoon Tea @ The Drawing Room, St. Regis Kuala Lumpur

As my mother and I sat in the luxurious Drawing Room sipping various blends of teas and enjoying an assortment of pastries and desserts, it seemed like the chaos of the city just outside the hotel’s doors was hundreds of miles away. In fact, it was quite a jolt to our system upon returning to the city’s streets after 90 minutes of solitude.
Not forgetting that we achieved another milestone too: brought an active toddler along. Haha

And I’m glad we brought Mini C along with us for an Afternoon Tea at St Regis.
He was so well behaved, self entertain while we eat, showing interests on the beautiful environment pointing to objects and exclaiming: CAKES! TEAPOT! CUPS! FLOWERS!

Being a huge fan of Hi Tea myself, I have big expectations on what St Regis has to offer.
Indeed, Afternoon Tea here is a time honoured custom that seemed like it’s passed down as an heirloom from mothers to daughters. For an hour or more, I’ve seen guests actually carry on a conversation while enjoying each other’s company. Perhaps because people are craving quality time together, Afternoon Tea has never been more popular as tea rooms in lavish hotels around offer guests brimming cups of black, green, white, and herbal teas.

With an ambiance that includes plush cushioned chairs and a very attentive staff, the St. Regis pampers their guests with a time-honoured tradition – how Mrs. Astor would have enjoyed back in the 19th century, at The Drawing Room of The St. Regis. I personally love the surroundings. Very cosy & bright, we were captivated by the refined elegance of the décor. Dining under under a glistening custom-made 5-tier crystal chandelier alongside. And one of the most prominent decor would be the specially commissioned horse sculpture by notable Columbian artist, Fernando Botero. It is the largest sculpture made by the artist, transforming an ordinary afternoon tea to one full of magic and grandeur at The St. Regis Kuala Lumpur.
Mini C exclaimed, “Sheep!” after looking at it carefully correcting it as “Horse!” LOL.
It was a muscular horse indeed, looking like a Baa Baa Black Sheep to my son. Hahaha.

The service was excellent, as it usually is, although there was a tiny hiccup. After we were chatting for a bit, the server came over to attend to our need for a baby chair, helping to buckle up Mini C making sure he’s comfortable. Not long after, the staff came along with a tray of savouries.

Savouries – FREE FLOW
Before the three-tiered tray was carried out, the savouries were served first on our plate. There were 4 types of savouries and all of them are excellent. The server will be walking around the lounge and thus you could as for top up if you would like to have more sandwiches or canapés. The variety was great and everything tasted freshly made.

Scones are served with clotted cream and strawberry jam on a separate plates. With a serving of 3 scones per person, it was really a lot for us that we had to take away. Nonetheless, it was one of the best scones we’ve had in KL! Very buttery and not too flaky nor dry. Paired perfectly with the clotted cream & jam.

A nice variety of sweets and they tasted great. The Fruits Tartelette was my favourite since hidden in inside was a surprise custard filling. And the chocolate shooters was really chocolate-y and a dream come true for sweet tooth! But we can’t finish it as it was too satiating.

Mini C with the Raspberry Cake Pop
Love the mini white chocolate balls underneath the cake pop. Not too sweet and very crunchy.

I’m sticking with keeping The St. Regis afternoon tea as the second best in Kuala Lumpur. (See my top places for afternoon tea.) It lost some allure from opposite view of construction site, but everything else about it is solidly good.
