Seven Seeds are specialty coffee roasters with multiple thriving cafes across Melbourne, contributing to Australia’s modern coffee scene. That said, there are still a number of places that sit above the rest, and Seven Seeds is undeniably among them.
Seven Seeds is a micro roaster, cafe and retailer based in Melbourne.
They source, import, roast and sell what they believe is among the best coffees around the world.

We have to say the Seven Seeds house blend is superb, but the cafe also offers a selection of carefully sourced single origins and guest blends, often from top international roasters. There’s also a small menu of simple food, such as sandwiches and muesli, all made with notably high-quality produce.

The place is regularly busy and always humming with energy. It’s not uncommon to have to wait for a table. WHat’s more when Melbourne University is only a block away so students often drop by while they kill time between classes.

Pickle heirloom carrot toast with avo smash, seasoned lemon ricotta and chilli dukkah + poached eggs & salmon – AUD22
Always amazed with their food presentation and the combination of the carrot toast, buttery avocado mash to the perfectly poached eggs and fresh salmon on top is undeniably impressive. Maybe it was our first meal in Melbourne, but we are definitely satisfied.

Double Wagyu patty burger with Seven Seeds special sauce on a brioche bun + bacon – AUD20
Was reluctant to order this as we were afraid that we might nit be able to finish it, but luckily we did! The patty was enormously juicy! So good on the soft and hot broiche bun!

If you find yourself in the CBD looking for coffee, be sure to drop by Brother Baba Budan or Traveller Coffee, Seven Seeds’ smaller city operations.

When we stepped in on a weekend, there was a wait for tables, and this isn’t a small space.
The whole space is very slick and shiny with the display and humming sounds from the ever so busy coffee machines and its baristas.
There’s a syphon bar, an army of grinders housing a variety of blends and single origins , a little one-kilo roaster they’ll use to produce small batches for the cafe, as well as a Clover coffee machine.
They serve all day breakfast, hearty lunches, fresh juices, smoothies, single estate teas, homemade cakes and of course aromatic coffee!

We really enjoyed the whole atmosphere while sipping our cuppa and enjoying brunch. Music being played on the old school disc player, watching the floor staffs and baristas getting into the mood & moving with the music as they work, that was cool. Though very busy, they are enjoying it. Love the spirit!

Coffee beans for sale and of course we had to get some!

Seated by the coffee bar, we enjoyed watching the handsome barista doing his filter coffee.

On the house, a single origin filtered coffee. With a sourish finish, Chris loved it.

He offered to do a flat white for us after we complained the first one has too much milk and promised it will be a beautiful one.

Flat White – AUD3.8
It was indeed beautiful. With just the right amount of milk without covering the coffee’s taste.

Potato Hash – AUD19
Served with charred kale, double smoked bacon, organic poached egg, bagna cauda. Soft and buttery fragrant on the inside with maximum crispiness on the outside.

Cotechino – AUD17
Pork sausage, grilled leeks, lentils, poached egg, zeally bay sourdough. Don’t really fancy this as it was a bit too dry but the poached eggs saved this dish.

You could also head over to Aunty Peg’s or Proud Mary Coffee Roasters at Wellington Street, Collingwood, VIC 3066.

A neat little brunch spot, Coté Terra is just around the corner from Oakleigh’s main strip. A hub for speciality coffee lovers and foodies in Oakleigh and surrounding neighbourhoods as they are offering delicious, affordable and contemporary food and drinks
Their All-day breakfasts feature Noisette breads and classic egg options, while lunch offerings are heartier options which we thought were delicious too!

With its comfortable neighbourhood atmosphere, Coté Terra is a great way to while away a quiet hour.

Market Lane is a specialty coffee roastery, cafe and retailer, born and based in Melbourne.
The one we visited is at the famous touristy Queen Victoria Market, showcasing some of their coffees, and have a cupping lab set up. Most people do take aways from here. They also have a pretty & stylish cafe setup at South Yarra if you would like to visit.

DSC_8874

The barista is generous and friendly enough, explaining the process with a full in depth how-to as well other than offering coffee tasting to us.
They also have a mighty mighty fine retail section, with beans, cups, books, tools, you name it.

DSC_8859

According to him they spend a lot of time sourcing beans from some of the best coffee growers in the world, looking for superior coffees that are distinctive and memorable and can stand up on their own without blending. They only serve coffee that is in season, and we could really tell that they love to share the stories of where their beans came from.
