A hydrotherapy spa for babies has made its debut in Klang Valley, and now has more branches at Penang, Johor and soon Malacca!
Many would wonder if it’s worth the hype.
Although there were articles stating the nays of using the neck float for your little ones and its possible risks, there were too lots of stated benefits which are clearly tested.

DSC_5174

“Babies’ brains and bodies benefit from being the water for 20 minutes.”
“Enhances neurological development” and “helps babies sleep better and more soundly.”
It also actually benefits the baby’s breathing and growth, and helps with lactation and post-partum depression in moms. How cool…

Hippopo Baby Spa

At Hippopo, little ones float in a tiny pool (Jacuzzi like tub) of purified (not chlorinated) water for 20 to 30 minutes. They stay above water by wearing an inner tube around the neck. Swim diapers are provided, as are warm towels. Moms are an arm’s reach away.

Thanks to Hippopo Baby Spa, our Mini C really enjoyed himself throughout the whole session!
There’s nothing quite like seeing your baby swimming around so happily, like a baby hippo! Haha.
We tok so many pictures and videos of him! Replaying the video just made us laugh over and over again. Babies are just so cute when they are in the water and it’s like they just know what they should do! Swimming like a pro.
We are glad Mini C loves it and enjoyed himself being a water baby.

The ambiance is warm and inviting. With cute decos that gave the whole space cheerful touches of marine themed. Plus, the temperature of the centre is well regulated so that our little ones will not feel too cold when they are in or out of the water.

Our therapist for the day was Xiao Hui. She’s good! Friendly, detailed, cheerful and most importantly, she can handle our baby so well. Before our session starts, she gave us a little tour around Hippopo. We went to their Setia Walk outlet. It’s not really big we would say, but it’s definitely enough to cater your little one’s session as all sessions have to be pre-booked preferably. So remember to make your appointments before you visit them!

To enhance and ensure your baby’s spa experience:

  • Make sure your baby had enough sleep prior your visit
  • Nurse or feed your baby around 30 minutes before arrival (I fed Mini C one hour before)
  • No vaccinations within the past 3 days
  • Baby has no fever, flu or cough

Daddy! Where is she taking me? Where’s mommy??!

DSC_5080

Getting babies used to water early in their lives makes sense from a safety point of view trains them to be secure and relaxed. Swimming is also great fun and good exercise too. We feel like swimming with our baby too 🙂

DSC_5205

At Setia Walk Mall, they have 3 individual tubs for babies from month 0-6. The water in these individual tubs are filled and changed after each session. They are chlorine-free, specially filtered warm water that is safe for young infants as chlorine is said to trigger asthma and allergies in young children. The temperature of the warm water is set to 30-32 degree celcius and parents will be asked to try out the water temperature first.
Babies will be wearing a neck float and swim nappy while being assisted by their therapists. And we have Xiao Hui to assist us. Mini C loves her! And we must praise her friendliness and her experience with handling babies. Usually Mini C is afraid with strangers who wants to touch him. Luckily he did no cry while he’s with Xiao Hui. Bravo. Fuh! *wipes sweat*

A bigger pool for up to 3 babies at a time (for 6 months babies and above).
Also chlorine-free, specially filtered warm water that are changed once a day. But they have installed ionizer that could kill bacteria. So no worries!

For babies that are not used to noises, parents not comfortable with the open area and sharing pool, they also have private rooms. With an additional payment of RM20.

WARM UP SESSION
Before getting into the tub, Mini C have to warm up first. So he did some light stretching (assisted by Xiao Hui). Haha. Like: 1,2,3…. OPEN! Ok mommy knows how to do now too! 🙂

BABY SWIM – NECK FLOAT
As to why the babies wear inner tubes around their necks and not just arm floaties, Xiao Hui said, “The benefit of allowing the baby to have free range of all of their limbs is what supports the early neurological development of the baby. And also, they manage to exercise their whole body”
This session lasted about 20-25 minutes.

We knew Mini C loves water and he’s really happy with bath time, but we didn’t really expect that he will get used to the water so quickly. Once Xiao Hui slowly placed him in the water, off he go! Kicking non-stop and all the way till the session ended. Haha.

Getting ready to get up. A bit reluctant this boy. Lol. But he’s tired.

BABY SWIM – SITTING FLOAT
Mini C was also allowed to try on their sitting float for about 5-10 minutes where he carefree-ly sit there, nom-ing the rubber ducks and balls. LOL. He tend to kick less while he’s on a sitting position. Time to relax and tine down after a tiring swim, eh baby?

BABY MASSAGE
It is said to provide developmental and therapeutical strokes. I personally think that they should let mommies do this hands on while being guided by the therapist instead of the therapist doing it themselves. Motherly touch is very important. Haha. Just a suggestion.
Anyways, therapists here will do it for your baby. So mommies can watch and learn, and can do it at home for your babies. I learnt those strokes too. Hehe.
Baby massage is gentle and rhythmic strokes with hands using organic oil. They provide full body massage that concentrated on specific areas like stomach, back, chest, head, arms or legs. They use organic oils such as olive and grape seed oil.
Add RM 5 for their Rose Musquee Elixir Oil by Hydraflore from Paris. This is said to be their premium oil that is less sticky and need no washing off after treatment. They uses this oil on Mini C 🙂

Our Mini C slept really well after that. Put him straight in his car seat, he was relaxing like this before dozing off. Haha.
