Coco Steamboat @ Old Klang Road

Steamboat/ Hotpot 火锅 is one of our favourite on the “eat list”.
However, not all steamboat are that good equally and memorable. What’s important for most of us? Good soup base & fresh ingredients.
Also, there are sometimes disagreements that rises between different styles of hotpot enthusiasts. Some like to place items into the hotpot at a relaxed, leisurely pace while enjoying the cooking process chit-chattering away, while others prefer to put everything in at once and wait for them to boil. All cooked in one shot. Which you prefer?
For us, steamboat ain’t just about chucking all the meat & vegetables into the hotpot and gobble them down. It’s also about a process of cooking the items accordingly, making the soup base stronger & zesty enough.

We frequent the Jade pot steamboat previously, also located at Old Klang Road. Sad to know, it has closed down a few months ago (now only operating at Sri Hartamas). Soon after, we ‘switch’ the usual steamboat place to Coco Steamboat at Cheras.
Having heard that Coco has a new branch in Old Klang Road, we dropped by on a weekend.
Coco Steamboat, originated from the main headquarters in Cheras, is located right next to a service centre. Here, they provide a spacious open air area with covered zinc roof top.
FYI, reservation is not allowed after 6.30 pm. If you would like to secure a table, it is by first come first serve basis. Remember to pass your name to the main counter and wait patiently for your turn. Try to be earlier or book before 6.30pm. No kidding as this place this place is really happening. Usually it takes about 20-30 minutes to wait.

What’s their signature?
Whole Pork Bone Soup – RM18.90
**Maximum 5 pax. Additional pax will be charged RM1 per person.
Love this pot of milky pork bone soup. Boiled with giant pork bone, it is also loaded with white cabbages, deep fried shredded yam, sliced radish, deep fried beancurd and black pepper in its soup base! It was really tasty enough and does not require adding more condiments. Love the pipping hot complex flavour, and how it turn out more flavoursome after several rounds of filling the ingredients.

Fried Chicken Wings – RM19.60 (7 sets)
We really love the version in Cheras better. Juicier & deep fried perfectly. The ones we had here was kinda disappointed as they were dry & small. Heard they were ok during other times. Perhaps the jam packed crowd created their inconsistency? Maybe.
This was suppose to be a great snack to kill time while waiting for the ingredients to boil, but it came after that. Ouch.
