Sage Restaurant & Wine Bar @ The Gardens, Mid Valley City

We have always love December dearly.
A month filled with so much happenings.
Don’t mention that we have to slaughter our wallet, well thanks to the birthdays.
After the celebration at Thirty8 for my one-year-older event, it was my turn to scratch head for another round of dining out excuse 🙂

“Let’s settle for Sage Restaurant & Wine Bar”

Throughout our blogging years, this is the very first time time we decided to dine in Sage. It was quite peculiar as this place has not crossed our mind yet. But this sudden ring of bell really did guarantee a great dining experience.
Sage Restaurant & Wine Bar is located on the 6th floor of The Gardens Hotel & Residences, just next to Vertigo. You’ll feel Sage is like more of like a standalone as it’s location is kinda secluded but fret not, it’s easily found 🙂

Upon entering the huge glass doors, you will be greeted by friendly staffs that would usher you to your table passing by the dark timber floors, wooden finishings, private dining area, Japanese paintings and to your cream leather chairs. An additional sophisticated ambiance with their floor-to-ceiling windows and also the soft music playing at the perfect decibel. From our seat, we could also watch Chef Daniel and his team in action through the restaurant’s semi-open kitchen. Bringing the best of both worlds, this fusion of Japanese & French concept definitely had us going 🙂

“Food is like a work of art. The plate is my canvas. The ingredients are my paint. The customers are my critique” – Chef Daniel

For weekday lunch Sage serve the Discover Lunch: 3 courses for RM100 (with a choice of appetiser, entree, and dessert). FYI, their set menu changes every week. Thus, they beat food boredom hands down. Value for money? We nodded with assurance. What say you?

Complimentary house bread
We nibbled with glee on the excellent bread. There’s no need for butter. Dip them onto these pesto-like basil and olive oil puree. Very classic taste.

Here’s our 3 course lunch for the week 🙂
We chose to have it all!

Appetiser

Slow cooked Norwegian Salmon with Parsley oil & Capsicum
The fresh fat piece of salmon was slow cooked with dashes of salt, offering a semi raw texture upon sinking our teeth on the juicy fresh meat. With hints of smoky flavours and saltiness plus the sourish zing from the sides, it’s definitely very appetite-triggering.

Green Tea Soba Noodles with Hotate, Piment d’Espelette & Consommé of Winter Black Truffle
A healthy concoction of clear rich broth in every sip. The huge Hotate that empowered the green tea soba on top was really fresh as well. Great combination of flavours and texture.

Main Course
Pan Fried Royal Daurade with crispy Shiraou, & Shio Kombu Butter Sauce
Daurade is the Japanese black porgy or sea bream, a fish often farmed for food in Japan.
A light, delicate preparation of fish. For fans of fresh, flaky fish they would enjoy this.

Grain Fed Angus Beef with Yuzu Kosho & Natural Jus
A medium rare order from Chris. He loves his beef a lot. A very memorable dish on his birthday, he can’t help but “insta” it on Instagram. Haha.
Very juicy and tender. Locked with flavours from the marinates, the Yuzu Kosho, a Japanese sauce, churn out a tantalizing taste too.
Besides, the mashed potato was very fine and buttery as well 🙂

Dessert

Rum Raisin Galette with Crème Anglaise & Grappa Ice Cream
Though I still prefer my birthday cake at Thirty8, haha…
But this alcohol based chocolate crusty cake with rum & raisin aced our sweet ending!
Erupting profusely with chocolate sauce. It would never go wrong with the ice cream!

2 choice os Artisanal & Fermier Cheese with Fug Terrine & Homemade Walnut Bread
Have a go with different strong flavours of the cheese!
