Gerai Makan Japanese BBQ 大众烧肉 @ Taman Desa

Valentine’s Day dropped by early this year as we’ve decided to have it celebrated over the weekend ♥
Lavish classic Valentine dinner with candles and scented flowers decorated around…
Ballads of love songs that harmonizes as we cling our wines glasses to cheer…
Premium steak and warm consomme…

Nah. Not this year as we decided to go for something totally different!
Ever celebrated your Valentine at a run down back alley with no air-con & sweaty dinner?

Well, it doesn’t matter where you eat. It’s the person you eat with that makes you happy 🙂

Gerai Makan Japanese BBQ 大众烧肉 was where we had our V-Day dinner. Tucked in an alley at Plaza Fader in Taman Desa, this petite Japanese food stall was actually manned by Mr. Seiji Fujimoto, the owner of Sanuki Udon (which is also located nearby). We were there after a heavy downpour and the weather was just right for a Yakiniku session.
Remember to be there early as the crowd would be coming in. They have limited seats indoor but it’s cooler to be seated outdoors though.

Selections of alcohols (Sakae also available) ; best to go with Yakiniku / grilled meat!

Genghis Khan – RM20
Our first dish with a mighty name and this was the only lamb dish available on the menu. Japanese grilled mutton slices on a skillet that was very flavoursome as they were very well marinated while retaining the juicy bits of the meat. Add in some onion to boil together for better taste and in return for some soft tasty onion too! The lamb’s gamey taste is not too strong and very acceptable too 🙂

Pork Tongue – RM6
Being skeptical towards ‘the tongue’, we felt disgusting at first but to our surprise, it was really chewy after barbecueing it and was actually good!

Japanese Risotto – RM6
Stewed rice with egg was tummy filling and best eaten together with the meaty portion

Pork Ramen – RM10
New on their menu, their noodles were smooth and their CharSiu (Pork) was to die for. The fatty part would just literally melt in your mouth. Soup base wise was just alright.

Sapporo Beer – RM13
Yakiniku’s best friend.
Cheers to all love birds! Perhaps a little date here on V-Day for supper?

  14. Dont come here when u r hungry, really bad and slow service (or no service, since u do the bbq urself) take 30 minute to take order and another 1 hr for the raw meat to be served then only u can start bbq

    1. business getting better and lack of staffs? Aiks

  15. Saw the last comment about the place so me and my gf went prepared. We waited around 45 mins, not really full house at that time also, a few uncleaned tables, and the staffs dashed around dont know busy for what. Then I waved to the japanese boss(look like japanese) who is standing there, trying to remind him of my order, but instead coming to serve us personally, he waved at one of the busy staff to attend to us. I mean, if the boss doesnt want to serve customer, how can he expected his staff to serve customer well ? Food wise i think ok only, it can be done at home, wait free.
